Super STEM Saturday Returns to Cal State San Marcos with Over 100 Interactive Science Activities
SAN MARCOS, CA - Science enthusiasts of all ages are gearing up for one of North County's largest STEM festivals as Super STEM Saturday returns to Cal State San Marcos on March 8, 2025. The free, day-long event will transform the university campus into an interactive science playground featuring more than 100 hands-on activities and demonstrations.
Running from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Super STEM Saturday invites families to explore the wonders of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through engaging exhibits spread across multiple campus locations.
"This festival happens rain or shine," said a university spokesperson. "We're fully prepared to welcome thousands of attendees for a day of discovery and learning."
Visitors can witness spectacular demonstrations including rocket launches that take place every 20 minutes, indoor lightning created by a 400,000-volt Van De Graaff generator, and chemistry shows with explosive finales. The event also features special animal-focused activities, including K9 search and rescue demonstrations and opportunities to meet therapy dogs and equine ambassadors.
For aspiring engineers, numerous building challenges await, including marshmallow tower construction, popsicle catapult competitions, and DaVinci bridge building. Tech-minded attendees can experience virtual reality, control robots, and explore creative coding.
"We want children to see themselves in STEM careers," explained an event organizer. "When they participate in these activities and meet real scientists and engineers, it helps them envision those possibilities for their future."
Several special shows are scheduled throughout the day, including "The Amazing World of Physics Show" at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM in the University Student Union, and "Better Than Magic Chemistry Show" at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM in ARTS 240.
For high school students considering college options, the event offers campus tours at 10:15 AM, 11:15 AM, 12:15 PM, 1:15 PM, 2:15 PM, and 3:15 PM, providing information about CSUSM's STEM programs and college application preparation.
The festival is made possible through sponsorships from numerous organizations including Viasat, the County of San Diego, ASML, Bristol Myers Squibb, General Atomics Sciences Education Foundation, and many others committed to promoting STEM education in the community.
Free parking will be available in Lots E, F, and H. Food vendors will be stationed around Kellogg Plaza and the University Student Union.
