San Diego has beautiful beaches - look but don't touch

Several of the country's best beaches are located in San Diego, California, according to a USA Today reader poll. Three local beaches made the top 10 list:
1. La Jolla Shores Beach (ranked #8) - Known for its soft sands, vibrant marine life, and activities like surfing, swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking.

However, water contact closures and advisories have been issued for several San Diego County beaches due to bacteria levels exceeding health standards. Closures are in effect for some of the same beutiful beach locations such as Coronado Shoreline, Silver Strand Shoreline, Imperial Beach Shorelines, and Tijuana Slough Shoreline. Best beaches California: Coronado, La Jolla and Oceanside in San Diego
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — It’s no secret that coastal California is lined with beautiful beaches, stretching about 840 miles from north to south.
Some are known for their iconic landmarks like the Ferris wheel at Santa Monica State Beach. Others are remembered for their sandy shores and ideal surfing waves such as the Trestles Beach area in San Clemente.
USA Today sought to narrow down the 10 best beaches in California, specifically beaches “that have it all.” An expert panel nominated their top picks, then the publication’s readers voted for their favorites.
Three San Diego-area beaches made the top 10 list. Can you guess which were selected?

Ranking No. 8 on the list, this La Jolla beach is known for its soft sands and vibrant marine life, most notably the seals that inhabit the coastal area.
When highlighting La Jolla Shores Beach, USA Today wrote, “La Jolla Shores Beach is a highlight of the San Diego area. It’s a paradise for surfers, swimmers, and sunbathers, offering an array of things to do, including snorkeling and kayaking.”

Ranking No. 5 on the list, Coronado Beach is known for its expansive shoreline, as well as the iconic Hotel Del Coronado that many visitors flock to yearly.
When highlighting this beach, USA Today wrote, “Whether you’re surfing the Pacific waves, playing beach volleyball with friends, or enjoying a scenic bike ride along the path, Coronado Beach provides many outdoor recreation opportunities — and not-to-miss stunning Pacific Ocean sunsets.”

Higher up on the list, this North County beach was ranked No. 3. The publication said the area offers “a plethora of activities for visitors.” For instance, there is a playground, sand volleyball areas, and even fire pits.
When highlighting Harbor Beach, USA Today wrote, “Amenities include lifeguard towers, picnic areas, and grills, and shops and dining options are close by, making Harbor Beach a cherished destination for both locals and tourists.”
Ranking No. 1 on the list was ‘Olol’koy Beach Park in Oxnard, and Pismo Beach was ranked No. 2. The full list can be found here.
